Salvage Barn

Iowa City, Iowa

The Friends of Historic Preservation relocated the Salvage Barn to the east side of Iowa City in 2012. The Salvage Barn is a non-profit that sells architectural salvaged materials.

As Architect, we designed a unique way to build the walls enclosing the entry and point-of-sales area. The Salvage Barn had many vintage doors of fair quality. Instead of drywall or plywood, we had the doors butted together and fastened to the 2x4 stud wall framing. Several salvaged windows were added to provide borrowed natural light throughout the spaces. All door-walls are painted one color to articulate the panel detailing of the salvaged doors.
